This month, Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) completed a series of Baggage Handling System (BHS) upgrades three years in the making, marking another milestone in the airport’s ongoing modernization efforts. The $71 million project delivered significant improvements across both terminals, enhancing the infrastructure and technology that support efficient airport operations.
In Terminal 1, the project focused on physical improvements to the baggage claim system, including upgrades to eight carousels, replacement of eight additional carousels, conveyor replacements, and the installation of new carousel columns featuring LED screens. In Terminal 3, the work centered on modernizing BHS control systems through computer hardware and software upgrades.
“Modernizing our airport means investing in the infrastructure and technology that keep our operations running reliably and efficiently,” said James C. Chrisley, Clark County Director of Aviation. “These upgrades are an important step in improving baggage handling, easing congestion and creating a smoother, more efficient travel experience for our passengers.”
Largely funded through federal Airport Infrastructure and Infrastructure Investment and Job Act grants, the project was completed on time and within budget. The upgrades are designed to improve baggage handling efficiency, enhance passenger and operational flow, and help reduce congestion in key areas of the airport.
